This is the 32nd post. I’m about 1 month into this year long experiment. I thought I’d use this post to talk about the posts themselves.
Doing this 1 year creative challenge isn’t new. In fact, it’s well documented that people who do this kind of similar experiment tend to learn a lot in the process, gaining great insight and learning more about their craft and themselves. I originally hoped to share some behind the scenes explanation of the products I’m currently creating as well as discuss and showcase on what it takes to build a brand around those products.
Originally these posts were supposed to contain thoughts, pictures, designs, revisions and the like. It morphed into a different type of create outlet centered around writing. I’m not a writer. I don’t pretend to be on and i’m not out there #amwriting like a lot of folks who have a talent for the craft. What this has become is an outlet of thoughts. This allows me to make sense of what product design means to me. What the concept of brand means to me. And really, these posts are me trying to make sense of what I’ve learned in the last 15 years making products - and me attempting to apply those lessons into creating something new.
It’s possible it might shift. It’s a bit of a struggle everyday to figure out what exactly I will write about. At times it easy and I’m happy to post it. Other times it’s incredibly difficult and I struggle with getting the thoughts to a respectable place. I fail. Often.
I will get to the point where I will show what I’m working on. What I miscalculated is the fact that these things take time. I started a project in January and the 1st sample arrived in April. Another project got started in March and the sample arrived in April (that sample was rough). Showing this early wouldn’t do me any favors. As people will lose interest in the intervals between the steps.
I plan to continue with the posts for the time being. I value the time I have left, and they’ve greatly helped me make sense of some ideas. I do plan to publish some of these ideas - but we’ll get there when we get there.
Thanks for reading.
This series of content is a small experiment. I pledged to create a piece of content on my site for the next 365 days. You can read the opening post here. The posts aren’t limited to thoughts or ideas, they’re really just a way for me to create original content. If you got any feedback/questions, please reach out. Thanks for looking.
