#everydaycreatiebattle 12/365 - Critical Critique

“This isn’t very good…”

"I don't understand this part.."

"I've seen this before..."

“It won’t work in this market…”

This type of feedback can be painful. Yes. But it’s absolutely crucial.

Each project, no matter how small or big, has critical phases - whether you’re a huge team, or you’re out there alone trying to create something new. Those critical phases are critical for a reason - the decision making that happens in those phases can either make or break your product - or paralyze you in your tracks if you’re unable to make a decision. It’s a common occurrence.

I’ve spent most of this weekend working out the next phase of one of my projects. I reached that critical phase. A "go/no go" type of phase. I have all the necessary information at my disposal to make the call on where I go from here. I have the samples, the pricing, the manufacturing limitations and everything else I might need. I can jump in head first and hope for the best or I can ask for some critical feedback from people I trust.

Yes, you can trust your gut and go with it. That can work. Sometimes. But, in my opinion, it’s best to have at least another set of eyes on what your’e doing at these critical phases. A gut check from those who can hear you out, understand you and your project and then provide a truthful analysis. I asked 2 people today to provide their critique. They did and a few key elements popped out that I didn’t consider on my own. I’ve since made the adjustments and got the nod. I'm ready to move forward - now with more confidence.

I you want to reach the next level, you need a network that can provide that critical critique. And you need to swallow your pride and listen. The important thing is that it has to be a real - it has to be with the right intentions and it has to be built around trust and respect. Find yours.
